The Differences Between Indica, Sativa, and Hybrid

Humans have cultivated cannabis plants for over 2500 years, breeding them for specific effects. Through cross-pollination and genetic evolution, humans have created new cannabis strains. A cannabis strain, or chemovar, has its own unique combination of cannabinoids, terpenes, and flavonoids based on its genetics.

In just a few short decades of exponential growth in the cannabis industry, growers have cultivated more than 1,000 potent cannabis strains with fantastic aromas, flavors, and effects. The three types of cannabis strains are known as Indica, Sativa, and Hybrid.

Since most strains have diverse genetics, it is rare to find one that is fully an Indica or Sativa. Instead, you’ll find many strains referred to as Sativa-dominant or Indica-dominant.

Strains with Indica characteristics are known for their relaxing body high. They can be used as a sleep aid and are best enjoyed at night due to their calming, sedative effects. Use indicas to unwind and ease away your worries. Indicas will make you want to take a bath, watch your favorite television show, and enjoy a nice bedtime snack.

Strains with Sativa characteristics are known for euphoric, cerebral effects. Great for daytime use, Sativas produce an uplifting head high that will make you alert and energetic. If you want to work out, make art, or cross off items on your to-do list, motivating and invigorating Sativa strains are the perfect choice.

Hybrids provide a balanced combination of Sativa and Indica effects. Each hybrid has its own unique combination.
